New York, Oct 25, (V7N) - A customer has filed a lawsuit against McDonald's following an E. coli outbreak connected to the chain's Quarter Pounder, which has led to at least one death and numerous illnesses nationwide.
Eric Stelly initiated the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois after consuming food from a McDonald’s location in Greeley, Colorado, three weeks ago. He experienced severe symptoms, including nausea, cramps, and bloody stools—common indicators of E. coli infection, according to his attorney, Ron Simon.
The 10-page lawsuit alleges negligence and product liability against McDonald's. This legal action coincides with a food safety warning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which are investigating the outbreak alongside the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Stelly expressed his shock in a statement, saying, “I’ve eaten at McDonald’s for years. Never did I expect to suffer like this from eating a burger. I hope my lawsuit can shed light on how this happened, so that McDonald’s can fix the problems and prevent them from happening again.”
In response, McDonald's has removed the Quarter Pounder from about 20% of its restaurants due to safety concerns. The company reassured customers that its other menu items remain safe to consume.
Further comments from McDonald's regarding the lawsuit are pending.
