Dhaka, Apr 29 (V7N) - The air pollution of the capital Dhaka is increasing gradually. Dhaka is second on the list of polluted air cities in the world today (Tuesday, April 29). The last update today was the value of the air in Dhaka 171, which is considered 'unhealthy'. As a result, Dhaka is ranked number two in 125 cities in the world. On the other hand, Lahore is at the top of the polluted air cities with a score of 186. Delhi is in third position with 156 score, Hanoi (139) of Vietnam in the fourth position, Kuwait (118) on the list and Kathmandu (114) in Nepal. The data was revealed from the Switzerland -based Airpon Determination Agency IQA.
According to the IQA's criteria, the air quality is considered 'good' if the score is between zero to 50. If 51 to 100, the middle or 'tolerable' is assumed to be the air quality. The score of 101 to 150 is unhealthy for the 'sensitive group' (ill or child-old). And if the score is from 151 to 200, the air is considered 'unhealthy'. The score is considered 'very unhealthy' if the score is 201 to 250, and is considered 'disastrous' or seriously healthy if more than 301.
On the other hand, the High Court Division issued the rule in terms of a writ filed in the court two days before the last two days (Sunday, April 27) regarding preventing pollution in Dhaka. The rule has been asked why effective measures will not be directed to prevent air pollution. The High Court bench comprising Justice Kazi Zinat Haque and Justice Ainun Nahar Siddika passed the order. In the next four weeks, the Secretary of Environment, Director General of the Department of Environment, Dhaka North and South City Corporation, have been asked to respond to the rule. Prior to the court, the lawyer said. Monir Uddin gave a letter along with the Director General of the Department of Environment to prevent air pollution in Dhaka. According to the letter, the Department of Environment filed the writ in the High Court after the Department of Environment did not take effective measures to prevent pollution.
According to the writ, the worst of the last nine years was recorded in Dhaka on December 14, 2023. On that day, the city's average aquarium index (AQI) was 288, which fell in the 'very unhealthy' stage. The writer further mentioned that on February 19, 2024, Dhaka was first seen in the first position in 124 polluted cities around the world. On that day, the average aeruman index of Dhaka was 250.
According to a joint report by the Environment Department and the World Bank on March 2019, the main three sources of air pollution in Dhaka were the Itbata, the smoke of the vehicles and the construction of the construction. As a result, the situation in Dhaka, which has been under air pollution, has been in crisis day by day. Therefore, it has been said to immediately take necessary steps, expressing fears that Dhaka could become an abandoned city in the near future if it did not take immediate and environmentally friendly measures to prevent environmental aspects.
According to a study at Naniang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, the presence of short objects in the air (PM2 decimal 3 partical) is one of the major causes of air pollution in South Asia. According to the international measurement method, 1 lakh micrograms are equal to 1 gram. PM 2.5 weighs between 5 and 10 micrograms. Usually petrol and diesel powered cars, coal -based electricity smoke and buildings and infrastructure construction projects are the main source of these objects.
Studies say that small particles of PM-2.5 are entering the human body with breath. Since this object is small enough to enter the bloodstream, it is causing dire danger to health. In addition, various types of diseases that are harmful to human health such as life-threatening cancer and heart problems are this PM-2.0. As a result, the delicate particles spread from other sources such as man -made emissions and fires have died of about 500 million people prematurely around the world between 1980 and 2020. In addition, people suffering from heart, lung problems, strokes and cancer, which can be treated or prevent, are suffering from the average life expectancy of people, said researchers say.
According to the World Health Organization data, PM-2.0 is the sum of all kinds of solid and liquid particles in the air, most of which are dangerous. The average annual concentration of small and dangerous air, known as PM2.5, should not be more than 5 micrograms per cubic meter. However, less density can be a significant health risk. But now many cities around the world have a serious presence of these particles. In addition, another substance that is polluting air pollution is mainly made due to old vehicles, power plants, industrial establishments, residential areas, cooking, heat and burning of fuel.
Meanwhile, 'Air Purifier' will be set up in at least fifty places to prevent air pollution, said Mohammad Ejaz, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). He said discussions are underway with various non -governmental organizations to install the air purifier. They are large and expensive in size. The amount of air that 100 trees purify the air, each purifier will do that. Financial patrons were found for them. They will be placed in the public. He said that some immediate solutions to reduce pollution are being done on a long -lasting solution.
