It is known that the upazila's Padma contains the Chakrajapur union. Eight chars of this union are home to about 18,000 people. People are increasingly crossing on foot in this char. The rainy season causes them to get flooded. Hundreds of acres of crops were underwater at this period. At the same time, many families have been rendered homeless due to untimely and severe river erosion.
 
During the monsoon season, boats are the only dependable means of crossing the river. A number of people perish each year while crossing the parched Padma River in boats. The drought-prone Padma River is now a dead canal since there isn't enough water in it during the current dry season.
 
On Saturday around midday, individuals were observed strolling over the river using the upazila's roadways. At this ghat, hundreds of people used to cross the river every day with their daily requirements by boat during the rainy season.
 
The female labourers from Jotkadirpur village in Pakuria Union, Sonabhan Begum, Anera Begum, Jamena Begum, and Anema Begum, are walking over the river. At this time, they said, a lot of onions are grown in padma pastures. Returning home on foot after picking onions.
If you cut every onion leaf, you pay 70 rupees. Meanwhile, Anera Begum cut 5 onion leaves. He earned Rs.250. Her husband Zamir Uddin is ill. Can't do any work.
The boys got married and moved to other places. As a result, I have become helpless. I have stomach to eat. Every morning I cross the Padma river on foot and cut onion leaves.
 
Sonabhan Begum, another female worker said, I travel regularly. A few days ago we had to travel by boat. Now there is no water in the river, so I walk home from work.
 
Gholam Mostafa of Kaldashkhali Char said that every year Kharsrota Padma is causing more harm than good. Floods and river erosion during the monsoon season are causing huge damage.
During the dry season, the cultivation is disrupted due to lack of water. As a result, both had to fall into crisis. Azizul Azam, the former chairman of Chakrajapur Union, said that at one time, due to the roaring of Padma, the sailors did not dare to sail the boat. 
 
Even the fishermen did not dare to sail the fishing boats. Not only that, many times the boat dares to move in the face of huge waves and terrible roar of Padma did not get But in the course of time, that great Padma has now dried up and turned into a canal. Across the chest of the Padma rose sand dunes and crop fields.
 
Bablu Dewan, chairman of Chakrajapur union said, Chakrajapur distance from Khayaghat of Sadaghat is about 4 km. Even 2 months ago, thousands of Char people used to cross the Padma River by boat from this Kheya Ghat to the Upazila Sadar for various purposes including business. In a span of just 2 months, Padma has dried up and turned into dusty sand. As a result, the local people walk on the foot of Padma crossing over.
