The Southasia Peace Action Network (Sapan) has expressed strong solidarity with the students and citizens of Bangladesh in their ongoing struggle for justice and democracy, commending their bravery and resilience.

"We fully support a peaceful and orderly transition to a democratically elected government that upholds human rights," Sapan stated in a release published on Wednesday.

Sapan emphasized the urgent need for swift actions to reinforce democratic principles and ensure peace and security for the people of Bangladesh.

As an umbrella platform, Sapan advocates for regional cooperation, encouraging governments and people in South Asia to work towards soft borders, economic collaboration, and mutual engagement on critical issues. Since its inception in March 2021, over 90 organizations have endorsed the Sapan Founding Charter.

Monitoring the situation in Bangladesh closely, Sapan also conveyed deep concern and condolences for the tragic loss of life during recent protests, calling for thorough investigations into all unlawful killings and accountability for those responsible.

"We believe that the current crisis can be resolved peacefully," the statement read, "and we urge immediate action to halt ongoing attacks on minorities and other vulnerable groups. Protecting minority communities and public property is essential for rebuilding the nation positively."

Sapan further urged all stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration to protect the rights and freedoms of all citizens. The organization expressed confidence that lasting peace and stability in Bangladesh can be achieved through collective effort and a steadfast commitment to democratic values.

In addition, Sapan congratulated the nation on the selection of Dr. Yunus as the Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government, expressing hope for a swift resolution to the crisis once the caretaker government is in place.
