Sept 27, V7N - Kenya's Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon secured another dominant victory in the 1,500 meters at the inaugural women-only Athlos NYC meet on Thursday. Kipyegon, who claimed her third consecutive Olympic title in Paris, clocked 4 minutes, 4.79 seconds to take home first place and further solidify her reign in the "metric mile." Ethiopian Diribe Welteji finished second in 4:05.58, while Kenyan Susan Ejore-Sanders came third with a time of 4:06.25.

Athlos NYC, an event created by entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, aimed to highlight the star power of women’s track and offered a substantial $60,000 prize for each winner—double the amount from the Diamond League finale. The meet brought a vibrant atmosphere to New York's Icahn Stadium, celebrating the talents of top female athletes. First-place finishers were also awarded custom Tiffany crowns.

In the 200 meters, Brittany Brown pulled off a surprise win over Paris 200m gold medallist Gabby Thomas, crossing the line in 22.18 seconds, just three hundredths of a second ahead of Thomas. Brown expressed her excitement about being part of the evolving sport.

Ivorian sprinter Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith claimed victory in the 100 meters with a time of 10.98, followed by Brown, who finished second in 11.05. Meanwhile, Olympic 400-meter champion Marileidy Paulino continued her unbeaten streak, winning her event in 49.59 seconds, and Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn triumphed in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.36.

In the 800 meters, Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma, the Paris 800m silver medallist, held off Kenya’s Mary Moraa in the final turn to secure victory in 1:57.43.
