Paris, Oct 28 (V7N)- Tonight, Paris will witness a historic shift as the Théâtre du Châtelet hosts the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony, with a new generation of footballers vying for the title that was once dominated by legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. For the first time in over 15 years, neither Messi nor Ronaldo is featured on the shortlist for the Best Male Player, marking the end of an era and opening the stage to emerging talents such as Vinicius Jr., Rodri, Jude Bellingham, and Dani Carvajal.
This year, Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr. is the frontrunner for the Ballon d'Or after an outstanding 2023-24 season. Vinicius scored 24 goals and provided 11 assists in 39 matches, leading Real Madrid to major victories in both La Liga and the Champions League, where he also netted a decisive goal in the final. His exceptional form throughout the season has made him a prime candidate for football’s highest honor.
Manchester City’s Rodri is another strong contender. Known for his midfield prowess, Rodri was instrumental in City's English Premier League win, and his stellar performances also contributed to Spain’s triumph in the Euro Cup. City manager Pep Guardiola lauded him as the “best midfielder in the world,” reinforcing Rodri’s candidacy for the coveted award.
Adding to the competition is Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, who showcased remarkable skill and maturity. The English midfielder scored 19 goals in La Liga, earning the title of the season’s Most Valuable Player and playing a significant role in England’s journey to the Euro Cup final.
The Ballon d'Or ceremony, which kicks off at 1:45 AM Bangladesh time, will not only crown the Best Male Footballer but also honor the Best Female Footballer (Ballon d'Or Féminine), Best Scorer (Gerd Müller Award), Footballer for Humanity (Socrates Award), and Best Emerging Footballer (Kopa Trophy). Separate awards for the Best Club and Coach in male and female divisions will also be presented.
The voting, conducted by a select panel of renowned journalists, promises to reveal the stars who will shape football’s future. Football fans worldwide await the crowning moment, set to usher in a new era of legends in the world’s most beloved sport.
