England's white-ball captain Jos Buttler has extended his central contract, joining test captain Ben Stokes in a renewed commitment to the national team, as announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday. Buttler, currently recovering from an injury, was initially in the first year of a two-year deal but has now extended his contract, aligning with Stokes for the next two years.

Rob Key, managing director of England men's cricket, emphasized the depth of talent across England's red and white-ball teams, stating that the central contracts are intended to reward players who are expected to play pivotal roles. Key highlighted that both captains, Stokes and Buttler, have committed to two-year deals, underscoring their dedication to representing England.

A total of 29 players now hold central contracts, with seven key players, including both captains, on two-year deals. Previously, Stokes had opted for a one-year deal when the ECB introduced multi-year contracts, but he recently confirmed a new agreement that will carry him through the Ashes series in Australia next year, with Buttler’s contract covering the same period.

This agreement ensures both captains will remain with the England squad through the 2026 season, further strengthening the team’s foundation as they look ahead to key tournaments and series.
