NOV 02, V7N- Ruben Amorim has confirmed that this season will be his last at Sporting CP, although he initially hoped to finish the campaign before moving to Manchester United. The announcement of his appointment as United's new manager came on Friday, and he is set to join the Premier League club on November 11, sooner than he desired.

In a press conference following Sporting's 5-1 victory over Estrela da Amadora, Amorim reflected on his decision to leave, stating that he had communicated to the club president his intention to step down at the end of the season. He noted that, despite a strong start to the current season, Manchester United activated his release clause, leading to a rapid decision-making process that left him only three days to consider a life-changing opportunity.

"I had three days to decide on something that completely changes my life," Amorim said. He expressed his emotional connection to Sporting, indicating that leaving the club was challenging, particularly for him as a former player and coach there. Amorim emphasized his commitment to the club and its players, stating, "I prefer it that way. I don't let the players down," acknowledging that the news of his impending departure had created anxiety among his squad.

He also mentioned that despite his future with United, he remains focused on his current responsibilities, especially with significant upcoming matches against Manchester City in the Champions League and Braga in the league. Amorim made it clear that he would not be pursuing any players from Sporting for Manchester United, joking about Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres’ high valuation of 100 million euros.

Amorim's time at Sporting has been marked by success, including a perfect start to the league season after ten games, and he is determined to see out the remainder of his tenure with the club on a high note. He understands the disappointment of Sporting fans regarding his mid-season departure but remains committed to achieving success in the crucial games ahead.
