The South Korea Football Federation's (KFA) national football team management committee recommended the coach be sacked following the AFC Asian Cup semi-final loss to Jordan. Following that recommendation, Jürgen Klinsmann, the German coach of the national team, was fired just 11 months after his appointment. They lost 2-0 to Jordan in the last four in the race to be crowned champions of Asia.
The KFA appointed Klinsmann as coach in February last year. The agreement was also made until the 2026 World Cup. But his contract was canceled for such performance of the national team on the continental stage.
Chung Mong-gyu, chairman of the country's football federation, said of Klinsmann that he had failed to conduct the game with the attitude expected of South Korea's coach and show his skills as a coach. His personality is not right by the standards of Korean citizens and fans of the country.
It is known that Tottenham Hotspur star and national team captain Son Heung-min and PSG star Lee Kang-in got into a dispute in the dressing room before the semi-final match. There is even a fight between them. Even during the match, bandages can be seen on the two fingers of the captain's hand.
A coach has to take care of both the internal problems of the team and the form on the field, a task that Klinsmann is rumored to have failed. Meanwhile, Klinsmann took to Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) to thank all the fans, players and coaching staff. He also mentioned that the team was unbeaten in 13 consecutive matches under him. But in the last line of the post, he added, 'Keep on fighting', which raised different questions in the minds of netizens.
It should be noted that Klinsmann, who had a great career as a player, won the 1990 World Cup and the 1996 UEFA Euro. Scored 47 goals in 108 matches for Germany. But he did not get much success as a coach. The biggest success of his coaching career was winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the United States in 2013. As the coach of the German national team, Klinsmann led the team to the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup.
