Serbia's national football team has faced disciplinary sanctions from UEFA following incidents involving their supporters during last month's Nations League matches against Switzerland and Denmark. UEFA's disciplinary body announced that Serbia would be subjected to partial stadium closures for two upcoming home matches and would be banned from selling tickets to their fans for two away games due to racist and discriminatory behavior, as well as other misconduct from their supporters.
During the 1-1 draw against Switzerland in Zurich on November 15, Serbian fans were involved in throwing objects, lighting fireworks, and damaging the stadium. These actions, along with similar offenses in the goalless draw against Denmark, resulted in the sanctions. The misconduct during the Denmark match also led to a pitch invasion by Serbian fans.
In addition to the stadium closures, Serbia has been fined for the unruly behavior of their supporters. They will play Austria in the relegation playoffs in March after finishing third in their Nations League group. The sanctions serve as a warning to Serbia regarding their supporters' actions, with UEFA emphasizing the need for proper conduct both on and off the field.
