Australian batter Will Pucovski endured another concussion scare after being struck on the head during a Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Tasmania on Sunday.
Pucovski, batting at No. 3, was forced to retire hurt for 0 after receiving a blow to his helmet from a bouncer by Riley Meredith. The incident occurred just two deliveries into Victoria's second innings chase of 442 runs.
This is not the first time Pucovski has faced head injuries, having suffered several blows in the past. The 26-year-old was visibly disturbed after the impact and had to be attended to by medical staff. He eventually left the field, rubbing his eyes, and is currently under medical observation.
"Will is currently in the hands of our medical professionals," stated a Cricket Victoria spokesperson, adding that updates on his condition will be provided later.
In Pucovski's absence, Campbell Kellaway substituted as a concussion replacement. Pucovski, who returned after a previous head injury to score a century in a Shield match last month, has also been open about his struggles with mental health.
Reflecting on his challenges, Pucovski expressed that mental health has been a greater concern for him than concussions. Despite these setbacks, he remains optimistic about his long-term health and continues to strive in his cricket career.
Having played one Test match for Australia in 2021, Pucovski's health remains a priority, with hopes for his swift recovery from this latest setback.
