In the first Test match against Sri Lanka at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh made a tremendous start, largely due to the exceptional bowling performance of fast bowler Syed Khaled Ahmed. Khaled's brilliant display saw him claim 3-23, reducing Sri Lanka to a precarious 92-5 at lunch on day one, giving Bangladesh a strong upper hand in the match.
Khaled's impactful performance began early in the day, as he swiftly removed Nishan Madushka and then dismissed Kusal Mendis and experienced Dimuth Karunaratne, leaving Sri Lanka struggling at 41-3. The situation worsened for Sri Lanka as Angelo Mathews was run out for 5, and Dinesh Chandimal was dismissed by Shoriful Islam, further adding to their woes.
Despite the challenging position, captain Dhananjaya de Silva showed resilience, scoring 25 off 24 with four fours, supported by Kamindu Mendis, who was batting on 11 at the first interval of the day.
Khaled Ahmed's outstanding performance has put Bangladesh in a commanding position in the Test series opener, setting the stage for an intriguing continuation of the match.
