Mirpur, Nov 23 (V7N)- Bangladesh defeated visiting Ireland by 217 runs in the Mirpur Test, completing a dominant 2–0 series victory. Chasing a monumental target of 509 runs, Ireland were bowled out for 291 on the fifth day of the match on Sunday (November 23).

Starting the day at four wickets away from victory, Bangladesh pressed early, while Ireland faced the near-impossible task of breaking a 22-year-old Caribbean record for the highest fourth-innings chase. Though the Irish tail offered late resistance, the Tigers secured the win in the second session.

Curtis Campher resumed on 34 and Andy McBrien on 11. McBrien fell first, caught off Taijul for 21. Campher then built a 48-run stand with Jordan Neil, who made 30 before Miraz dismissed him. Campher continued to fight alongside Gavin Howe, inching towards a century, before Hasan Murad removed Howe to break the partnership.

Murad then struck twice in quick succession to end Ireland’s innings and seal Bangladesh’s victory. In the fourth innings, Taijul Islam and Hasan Murad both claimed four wickets, showcasing outstanding spin bowling.

Earlier, Bangladesh declared their second innings on 297/4, having earned a huge first-innings lead of 211 runs after bowling out Ireland for 265 in reply to their own 476.

Ireland struggled early in their second innings as Taijul removed openers Balbirnie and Stirling. Hasan Murad then dismissed Carmichael and half-centurion Harry Tector. Lorcan Tucker also fell cheaply before Ireland ended Day 4 on 176/6.

With the win, Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s side completed a dominant performance across the two-match Test series.

Meanwhile, the bilateral T20 series between the two teams will begin in Chittagong on November 27, followed by matches on November 29 and December 2.
