STOCKHOLM, June 3, 2024 (V7N Dhaka)- Femke Bol and Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis delivered standout performances at the Diamond League meet in Stockholm on Sunday, showcasing their readiness for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Dutch hurdler Femke Bol marked her outdoor debut with a victory in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 53.07 seconds. Despite being pushed early by Jamaica's Rushell Clayton and Andrenette Knight, Bol maintained her form to pull clear down the home stretch. Although her time was slightly off the world lead of 52.70 seconds set by American rival Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Bol's performance signals strong potential for the Paris Olympics.
The Swedish pole vaulter Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis thrilled the home crowd by winning the men's pole vault with a height of 6.00 meters. Duplantis then made three close attempts at 6.25 meters, just 1cm higher than his own world record set six weeks ago at the Xiamen Diamond League. His efforts, although unsuccessful in setting a new record, underscored his dominance in the event.
Algeria's Djamel Sedjati produced a stellar performance in the 800m, clocking the fastest time of the season at 1:43.23. This impressive run highlights his readiness for the major competitions ahead.
Jamaican sprinter Shericka Jackson bounced back from a disappointing fifth-place finish in Oslo to win the 200m with a season's best of 22.69 seconds. Despite her victory, Jackson's form appeared slightly labored, indicating room for improvement.
British middle-distance runners continued to shine, with Laura Muir winning the 1500m in 3:57.99 and Jemma Reekie taking the 800m in 1:57.79. Muir, focusing on the Paris Olympics, opted out of the European championships to concentrate on her training.
In the women's high jump, Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh secured a convincing victory with a best jump of 2.00 meters. Mahuchikh, in her outdoor season opener, expressed optimism for better performances as she adjusts to her new run-up technique.
Brazil's Alison Dos Santos continued his winning streak in the 400m hurdles, clocking 47.02 seconds. Dos Santos, who recently triumphed over Olympic champion Karsten Warholm in Oslo, emphasized his relentless readiness and commitment to training.
American Chase Ealey matched Dos Santos's consistency, winning her third consecutive meet in the women's shot put with a best of 20.00 meters.
In the men's 100m, Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme narrowly defeated American Kyree King and Italy's Chituru Ali with a time of 10.16 seconds into a headwind, showcasing the competitive nature of the sprint event.
As the Diamond League progresses, these athletes' performances in Stockholm set the stage for an exciting build-up to the Paris Olympics, highlighting their readiness and potential for success on the global stage.
