Buenos Aires, July 10– Argentina has maintained their perfect record in the ongoing Copa America, winning all five of their matches so far. In a tense semifinal clash, Argentina triumphed over Canada 2-0, following a dramatic tiebreaker victory over Ecuador in the last 16.
Despite the significant difference in FIFA rankings, with Argentina 47 places ahead of Canada, the match was highly competitive. Argentina's coach, Lionel Scaloni, acknowledged the challenge posed by Canada, emphasizing that the journey to the final was anything but easy.
"It is very difficult to reach another final," Scaloni remarked. "It's tough because we know how challenging it was to get here. The standards have been raised very high. Everyone thought it would be like a flower bed. But it wasn't like that at all. Canada also proved this by being a very tough opponent."
Argentina, the record 15-time Copa America champions, now await their opponents in the 30th final in the history of the tournament. The blue-white team will face either Uruguay or Colombia. Scaloni refrained from speculating about the potential final opponent, noting, "The two possible opponents of the final are the top national teams. So it will be difficult to talk about any one team as the final opponent."
This marks Argentina's sixth final appearance in the last 10 tournaments. With the goal of securing a second consecutive title, Scaloni aims to end the campaign on a high note alongside stars Lionel Messi and Ángel Di María.
