FIFA has extended an invitation to FIFPRO Europe and the European Leagues to discuss concerns over the international match calendar. This comes after FIFPRO and the European Leagues filed a complaint with the European Commission on July 23, accusing FIFA of misusing its position and harming the economic interests of national leagues and player welfare.

FIFA's spokesperson emphasized their desire to resolve the issue through dialogue rather than legal action. The organization believes it is balancing the interests of global football, including player protection, and aims to act in the best interest of the game.

The complaint focuses on FIFA's recent changes to the calendar, notably the introduction of a 32-team Club World Cup, which is set to debut in the U.S. in June and July 2025. This expansion is causing concerns as many top European players will need to compete during what would typically be their off-season. The issue is compounded by the upcoming 48-team World Cup in North America, scheduled for 2026.

FIFA had previously reached out for a meeting on May 10, 2024, but received no response. The invitation remains open for discussions to address the concerns raised.
