Beijing, 24 June 2024 – In a groundbreaking development, the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered hospital, named 'Agent Hospital,' has opened in China. This innovative medical facility, launched by researchers at Tsinghua University, marks a significant milestone in the integration of AI technology into healthcare.

According to a report by the Global Times, the virtual hospital employs 14 AI doctors and four AI nurses, demonstrating the potential of AI in revolutionizing medical care. The AI doctors are capable of treating up to 10,000 patients within a few days—a feat that would take human doctors at least two years to accomplish.

The AI doctors' capabilities are grounded in their impressive performance on the MedQA dataset of the US medical licensing exam, where they answered 93.06 percent of questions correctly. This high accuracy rate underscores the AI doctors' proficiency in understanding and responding to medical queries, suggesting their potential effectiveness in diagnosis and treatment.

Researchers at Tsinghua University emphasize that the AI doctors have proven their ability to handle a wide range of medical questions, indicating their readiness to support and enhance traditional healthcare services.

The opening of Agent Hospital represents a significant advancement in the application of AI technology in medicine, promising to improve access to healthcare and streamline medical services. As this AI-powered hospital begins its operations, it is poised to offer insights into the future of healthcare delivery and the role of AI in medical practice.
