Dhaka, July 28 — Mobile internet services have been restored across Bangladesh after a 10-day shutdown, with 4G connectivity resuming from 3 pm today. This announcement was made by State Minister for Telecom and Information Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak, following a meeting with the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (Amtob) on Sunday morning.

As a gesture of goodwill, all mobile internet customers will receive a 5GB bonus valid for three days once the connection is restored. Minister Palak confirmed, "Customers will receive the bonus starting from this afternoon, and the validity will be for three days." This offer is available to customers of all operators.

The briefing was attended by representatives from the country’s four mobile operators, as well as Mobile Financial Service (MFS) companies including Bikash, Naqd, Rocket, and Way. Additionally, representatives from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and intelligence agencies were present.

The shutdown of mobile internet services was initiated on the night of July 17 due to violence surrounding the quota reform movement. Broadband internet services were subsequently suspended on the night of July 18. For over 10 days, customers of five operator companies across the country were unable to use mobile data services.

Broadband internet services resumed on an experimental basis on the night of July 23, prioritizing diplomatic quarters, banks, financial institutions, power, freelancing and technology sectors, and export-oriented industries. Residential areas saw the return of internet services from the night of July 24, although Facebook and TikTok servers remain offline for now.
