Dhaka, June 18 (V7N) — Bangladesh recorded two new deaths and 18 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the 24-hour period ending at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A total of 312 samples were tested during this period, yielding a positivity rate of 5.77%, the DGHS stated. While the overall number of new infections remains relatively low, the positivity rate suggests that the virus continues to circulate within the population.
Year-to-Date and Cumulative Data
According to the DGHS, a total of 331 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in 2025 so far. The virus has claimed seven lives in the country this year.
Since the onset of the pandemic, Bangladesh has reported a cumulative total of 2,051,876 confirmed infections, with the official death toll reaching 29,506.
Health officials continue to urge the public to maintain hygiene protocols, especially for vulnerable groups, and recommend booster vaccinations for eligible individuals in response to recent spikes in certain regions.
Testing and Surveillance Ongoing
Although testing numbers have significantly decreased compared to earlier phases of the pandemic, the DGHS maintains a minimal surveillance structure to detect potential outbreaks and emerging variants. Efforts are also underway to ensure rapid access to booster doses in areas where new cases are being reported.
