Sylhet, Sept 17 (V7N) – Violence erupted at Ibn Sina Hospital in Sylhet’s Sobhanighat area on Tuesday night following the death of a patient, leaving five people injured. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. and was brought under control after police intervention.
According to hospital and police sources, the patient, identified as Tanin Ahmed from Niz Fulsain, Mokamtilla of Golapganj upazila, was seriously injured in a three-way collision involving a truck and two motorcycles on Sylhet Airport Road on September 4. He was first admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Ibn Sina Hospital for advanced treatment.
On Tuesday night, Tanin succumbed to his injuries in the ICU. Following his death, relatives and friends alleged medical negligence and began vandalizing hospital property. In response, hospital staff retaliated, resulting in a violent clash inside the facility.
Mohammad Saiful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said, “Police rushed to the spot after the clash broke out and brought the situation under control. Injured relatives of the patient were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment.”
Attempts to contact Maulana Habibur Rahman, Chairman of Ibn Sina Hospital Sylhet, over the phone for comments were unsuccessful.
