Dhaka, Dec 04 (V7N) – Medical technologists and pharmacists in Jhalokathi observed a four-hour work stoppage on Wednesday demanding implementation of the 10th grade pay scale, disrupting essential diagnostic and pharmacy services at Jhalokathi Sadar Hospital and causing significant hardship for patients.
Hospital services—including pathology, X-ray and medicine distribution—remained suspended from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. as part of a nationwide program announced by professional associations. Patients and their attendants reported severe delays in receiving tests, medicines and basic diagnostic support during the work stoppage.
The demonstration was held in front of Jhalokathi Sadar Hospital, where members of the Bangladesh Medical Technologist and Pharmacist Association participated in the protest.
Speakers at the event included Abdul Sattar, President of the district unit of the association; Jotish Shikdar, General Secretary; and KM Zahirul Islam Badol, President of the Jhalokathi District Private Diagnostic and Clinic Association.
Protesting technologists and pharmacists said they have long been facing professional inequality and that failure to implement the 10th grade pay scale has created deep frustration within the sector. They called on the government to address the disparity without delay.
They noted that medical technologists and pharmacists play a crucial role in the healthcare system, and prolonged delays in resolving their pay-scale demands continue to affect morale and service delivery.
The association warned that if their demands are not met soon, further nationwide action may follow.
