Barguna, Aug 31 (V7N) — Al Amin, who lost vision in his right eye and faces the risk of losing sight in his left eye due to police firing during an anti-discrimination student protest, is now grappling with severe financial difficulties.

At 28 years old, Al Amin lives in Talukdar Para village in Ward 3 of the 5th Ward of Talpati Union. His right eye is completely blind, and his left eye’s retina has been damaged, requiring significant financial resources for advanced treatment. The family is desperately seeking assistance to restore his vision.

On the morning of July 18, while heading to work from his home in Middle Badda, Al Amin was caught in a protest at Gudara Ghat. During this time, the police began firing indiscriminately, and Al Amin was severely injured.

He sustained ten gunshot wounds—one in his right eye, one on his forehead, one on his back, and one on his neck. He was initially taken to Farmgate Islamia Hospital and later transferred to the National Eye Science Institute Hospital for further treatment.

For advanced care, he was referred to Bangladesh Eye Hospital, where Dr. Afroza Begum removed the bullets from his eye. He was subsequently referred to Chennai, India, for further treatment. However, due to a lack of funds, he was unable to go to India and is now suffering at home without proper medical care.

Al Amin explained, “On that day, while heading to work, I was struck by police gunfire at Gudara Ghat. My parents borrowed money and sent two lakh taka for my treatment, which was used in Dhaka. Now, all the money is exhausted, and my eye condition remains unresolved. I cannot see anything.”

His wife, Karima Begum, stated, “We manage to survive on my husband’s earnings, but we now need between six to eight lakh taka for his treatment. I don’t know where we can find such an amount. It seems unlikely that my husband will ever regain his sight.”
