Rajshahi, Sep 08 (V7N) - In September, nursing students of Rajshahi Medical University (RAMEBI) are staging a protest in shrouds, demanding seven key points including the holding of exams and the announcement of results. On Sunday, September 8, at 12 p.m., they demonstrated in front of the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office.

During the protest, three students fell ill and were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Students from government nursing colleges affiliated with RAMEBI in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, and various private nursing colleges in Sirajganj, Bogura, and Rajshahi have been on continuous protest since Wednesday.

At 11 a.m., students gathered in front of the RAMEBI Controller of Examinations' office. They marched through Lakshmipur and C&B Crossing before sitting in protest in front of the Divisional Commissioner’s office.

By 2 p.m., two students from Rajshahi Nursing College and Sirajganj’s Sakhawat Memorial Nursing College fell ill and were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Another student also became ill later and was admitted to the hospital. Currently, 14 students are receiving treatment at the hospital.

In the meantime, around 1 p.m., Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development and ICT) Mohammad Kabir Uddin met with the students and discussed with 10 coordinators of the ongoing protest, informing them that the matter was under review by the health adviser’s office.

The office later communicated to Kabir Uddin that a meeting was ongoing regarding the issue. Kabir Uddin instructed the coordinators to follow up after returning. However, the coordinators made it clear that they would not leave until their demands were met. Coordinator Raihan Ali stated that 11 students had suffered heatstroke and were on the brink of death at Rajshahi Medical College.

He emphasized that the future of the 3,000 nursing students was at risk, and they could not leave without a resolution. The protesters declared that if their demands were not met, they would take over the offices of the RAMEBI Vice-Chancellor and Controller of Examinations and initiate exams and result announcements themselves.

Meanwhile, similar demonstrations have been held in nursing colleges in Rangpur and Lalmonirhat, with teachers also participating. Students have boycotted classes and locked their classrooms.
