Beirut, Oct 03 (V7N) — Israel launched another round of airstrikes on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Thursday, killing at least six people and injuring seven others. The strikes came just a day after Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group backed by Iran, faced significant losses.
According to Lebanese health officials, the casualties were reported in the aftermath of the attack, which struck near the Lebanese parliament in Beirut. Residents described hearing loud explosions, and security sources confirmed that the attack targeted specific areas in the capital. Israeli military officials stated that they were focusing on "specific" targets in the city.
Images of a heavily damaged building, reportedly hit by the airstrike, circulated widely on WhatsApp groups, showing a fire blazing on the ground floor. However, Reuters was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the photos.
In addition to the strikes in Beirut, three missile attacks were reported in the southern suburb of Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold where the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli attack earlier this week. Local security sources confirmed hearing loud explosions in the area, which has been under heavy bombardment since Wednesday.
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that eight of its soldiers were killed in clashes in southern Lebanon, marking the first Israeli military fatalities since its ground invasion of the country. Among the casualties were three soldiers from Israel’s elite Egoz unit, with seven others reported injured.
The escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah continues to fuel fears of a broader regional war, with both sides suffering casualties in the increasingly violent exchanges.
