Nov 22 (V7N) Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz has announced his withdrawal from consideration for the position of U.S. Attorney General. The decision comes just weeks after his nomination by newly elected President Donald Trump.

In a social media post on Thursday, Gaetz stated that he stepped down to prevent any potential controversies surrounding his nomination from hindering the new administration's work. "I do not want to waste time debating in Washington. The Justice Department of the Trump administration must be effective from day one," Gaetz wrote.

The nomination had sparked intense debate due to Gaetz's controversial political career and vocal support for Trump. His decision to withdraw was reportedly aimed at ensuring a smooth transition for the Justice Department under the incoming administration.

Gaetz expressed gratitude for the nomination, saying, "I believe that President Trump will protect the United States and be the most successful president in history. It is an honor for me to be nominated by him."

With Gaetz stepping aside, the Trump administration is expected to announce a new candidate for Attorney General soon, as the Justice Department plays a critical role in shaping the policies of the incoming administration.
