Dec 05, (V7N) - A cave-in at a construction site for the Shenzhen-Jiangmen railway in Shenzhen, China, has left 13 people missing, according to local authorities. The collapse occurred around 11 pm Wednesday in the Bao'an District, where construction on the railway connecting Shenzhen to Jiangmen in Guangdong province began in 2022.

The incident caused the ground to suddenly collapse, and authorities have launched a rescue operation that continues into Thursday morning. As of now, the cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Nearby residents have been evacuated for safety, and major expressways near the site have been closed to facilitate the rescue efforts.

This cave-in follows a pattern of industrial accidents in China, where poor regulation and lax safety standards have often contributed to tragic incidents. In August, a mining accident in Sichuan province killed eight people. Earlier in the year, a gas explosion in Hebei province claimed seven lives, while a residential building fire in Nanjing took 15 lives in February.
