NYC, Dec 13 (V7N)- John Kirby, the Strategic Communications Coordinator for the US National Security Council (NSC), stressed the importance of protecting religious and ethnic minorities in Bangladesh during a press briefing on Thursday, December 12, in response to a journalist's question about the recent protests by Hindu groups in the United States. The protests were sparked by the killing of Hindus and vandalism of temples in Bangladesh following the removal of the Sheikh Hasina government.

Kirby confirmed that the Biden administration is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh. "The President is aware of these incidents, and he is closely monitoring the situation," Kirby stated.

He acknowledged the heightened security challenges in Bangladesh after the former prime minister's removal. The US, he said, is working with the interim government to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement and security forces to address these challenges effectively.

Kirby reiterated that protecting religious and ethnic minorities is a top priority for the US government and that this message has been communicated clearly to Bangladeshi leaders. He also noted that the interim government has repeatedly pledged to ensure the safety and security of all Bangladeshi citizens, regardless of their religion or ethnicity.
