London, Dec 14, (V7N) - Buckingham Palace is investigating an incident involving a staff member who was arrested following a rowdy Christmas outing. The Metropolitan Police were called to a bar in Victoria, central London, on December 10 after reports of smashed glasses and an attempted assault on a staff member at the establishment.

The individual arrested, a 24-year-old woman believed to be a maid at the palace, was detained on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage, and being drunk and disorderly. She was released after spending the night in custody and receiving a penalty notice for disorder.

The incident occurred during an informal gathering of about 50 palace staff following an early evening reception at the palace. A palace spokesperson stated that while the drinks were not part of an official event, the incident is being taken seriously. An investigation and disciplinary process are underway.

The palace emphasized its commitment to handling the situation robustly, and disciplinary action may follow depending on the findings. The Metropolitan Police confirmed their involvement in responding to the disturbance.
