MADISON, Wis. Dec 17, (V7N) — A tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday left two people dead and six others injured. Police responded to reports of an active shooter around 11 a.m. local time. Upon arrival, they discovered the shooter dead at the scene, with one teacher and one student confirmed dead. Two students are in critical condition, and four others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes confirmed that the suspected shooter was a student at the school. Authorities recovered a handgun believed to be used in the attack, which appeared to be confined to one area of the school.
In the aftermath, a vigil will be held at the Wisconsin State Capitol on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to support the grieving community. Governor Tony Evers expressed his condolences and praised first responders for their swift action. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden condemned the violence, calling for legislative action on gun control.
This marks the second school shooting in Wisconsin in just seven months, following a similar incident in May. The school, which serves about 200 families, has asked for prayers for the victims and their families.
