Cairo, Dec 19 (V7N) — The 11th summit of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, a bloc of developing nations, has commenced in Cairo, Egypt, with representatives from all eight member countries in attendance. The main conference is set to take place on Thursday, bringing together leaders from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.

On Wednesday, the foreign ministers of the member states convened for the 21st session of the D-8 Council. Discussions during this session focused on enhancing mutual economic collaboration and formulating a unified framework for sustainable development. The council also addressed pressing regional and global crises, including the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The D-8 was founded in 1997 with the objective of fostering economic development, increasing trade opportunities, and improving the standard of living among its member nations. The current summit aims to build on these goals by exploring innovative strategies to bolster economic ties and address shared challenges.
