Washington, D.C., Jan 27 (V7N) — Former U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed evacuating the Gaza Strip and urged Egypt and Jordan to accept Palestinians fleeing the besieged enclave. The controversial proposal has sparked fears of ethnic cleansing and been met with outright rejection from Egypt, Jordan, and Hamas.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump stated, “Gaza is over. Let Egypt and Jordan take everyone. Let’s clean up the place.” He claimed this would bring peace to Palestinians, whom he suggested could live in peace outside the conflict zone.
Trump reportedly contacted Jordan's King Abdullah II, requesting the country to host over a million displaced Palestinians. Praising Jordan’s past efforts in accepting Palestinian refugees, he called for more significant action amidst the ongoing crisis.
The proposal, however, has drawn criticism for undermining Palestinian sovereignty and rights. Egypt, Jordan, and Hamas dismissed the idea, emphasizing the Palestinians’ historical connection to their homeland. Analysts suggest Palestinians are unlikely to abandon their land after decades of struggle and sacrifice.
The Gaza Strip remains under siege, with over 2.3 million people displaced due to ongoing Israeli attacks. Trump’s proposal has added a layer of complexity to an already dire humanitarian crisis.
