Jan 29 (V7N) — More than a century has passed since the introduction of the passport system, making it an essential document for international travel. Whether it is a head of state, a celebrity, or a common citizen, a passport is required to cross international borders. However, there are three unique individuals in the world who are exempt from this rule and can travel freely without a passport.

These privileged individuals are:

1. The King of Britain

2. The King of Japan

3. The Queen of Japan

While the late Queen Elizabeth II of Britain enjoyed this privilege throughout her reign, the tradition has continued with her successor, King Charles III. Following her passing, the British monarch's secretary issued an official message to all countries, stating that King Charles III should be allowed to travel freely without a passport. However, this privilege is exclusive to the reigning monarch—other members of the British royal family, including the Queen, must carry a passport.

Similarly, the King and Queen of Japan do not require passports when traveling internationally. Instead, before their visit, Japan’s Foreign Ministry sends an official letter to the host country, ensuring their smooth entry without immigration procedures.

For the British King, a special document is carried during travels, stating that the bearer must be granted unrestricted passage. This document replaces the need for a passport.

With a global population exceeding 8 billion and over 200 countries enforcing strict travel regulations, these three individuals remain the only ones who can cross borders without the need for a passport. Their unique status ensures not only unrestricted travel but also the highest level of diplomatic hospitality wherever they go.
