Washington, Mar 17 (V7N)-  At least 34 people have been killed as tornadoes and severe storms wreaked havoc across multiple states in the United States, with Missouri and Kansas suffering the highest casualties.

According to Reuters, citing the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS), 26 tornadoes were reported between Friday night and Saturday morning, mainly affecting Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, and Missouri. The extreme weather has destroyed homes, overturned vehicles, and left thousands without power.

Casualties and Damage Across States

Missouri: 12 dead, widespread damage.

Kansas: 8 fatalities, over 50 cars involved in accidents due to dust storms.

Mississippi: 6 deaths, confirmed by Governor Tate Reeves.

Arkansas: 3 dead, 29 injured.

Oklahoma & Texas: 1 death each.

Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency and urged residents to prepare for evacuation if necessary. In addition, more than 250,000 homes in seven states, including Michigan, Missouri, and Illinois, were without power as of Sunday morning, according to Power Outage Tracker.

The NWS has issued flash flood and tornado warnings for parts of Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, and Arkansas as the storm system continues to move across the Southeast.

Authorities are urging residents to remain alert and take precautionary measures as more severe weather is expected in the coming days.
