Washington, Apr 07 (V7N) – The White House has firmly denied reports that a military parade is being planned in Washington, D.C., on June 14 to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. military and the 79th birthday of former President Donald Trump.
The rumor originated from a report by a Washington-based newspaper, and was later picked up by international media agency AFP, which claimed the parade might stretch nearly four miles — from the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, to the White House.
However, a White House official told AFP on Monday (April 7) that the reports are "baseless" and confirmed that no military parade is being organized.
This is not the first time the idea of a military parade has been linked to Donald Trump. During his first term, the former president proposed a grand military parade in Washington after being inspired by France’s Bastille Day parade. But the proposal was eventually dropped amid Pentagon estimates of a $92 million cost and concerns over potential damage to D.C.’s streets from heavy military equipment.
As of now, there are no official plans to hold any such military display in the U.S. capital this June.
