Riyadh, Apr 14 (V7N) – Saudi Arabia has begun its official preparations for the upcoming Hajj season, issuing a set of strict new entry regulations for the holy city of Mecca. The Ministry of Interior has announced that starting from Wednesday, April 23, all individuals wishing to enter Mecca must carry special permits, in line with efforts to ensure organized and secure Hajj management.
According to a report by Arab News, this directive applies to both foreign residents and workers residing in other parts of Saudi Arabia who intend to travel to Mecca. Those without the proper permits will be turned back at checkpoints, particularly at the Al-Shumaissi checkpoint.
-
Permit Requirement: From April 23, a permit will be mandatory to enter Mecca for non-residents.
-
Permit Portals: Workers and residents must obtain permits through the ‘Absher’ or ‘Muqim’ portals.
-
Umrah Visa Suspension: The ‘Nusuk’ portal, used for Umrah visa issuance, will be suspended from April 29 to June 10.
-
Umrah Entry Cut-off: April 13 is the last date for entry into Saudi Arabia for Umrah pilgrims this year.
-
Foreign Umrah Deadline: All foreign Umrah performers must exit the country by April 29, ahead of Hajj preparations.
The Ministry has also issued a strict warning against any violations of the new rules. Umrah pilgrims who remain in Saudi Arabia after April 29 will be considered to have breached visa and Hajj laws. Offenders could face:
-
Fines up to SAR 100,000
-
Legal action
-
Blacklisting from future entry
Companies and service providers assisting with Umrah logistics have also been warned to adhere strictly to the new regulations, with severe penalties awaiting violators.
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah recently emphasized that these measures are aimed at maintaining the sanctity, security, and logistical efficiency of the Hajj season, one of the largest annual religious gatherings in the world. Following the end of Hajj, the kingdom will reopen for Umrah pilgrims.
Authorities are calling on all pilgrims, residents, and service providers to cooperate and abide by the regulations to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling Hajj for all.
