Kabul, Apr 16 (V7N) – A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region on Wednesday (April 16), according to a report by Anadolu News Agency.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) confirmed that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 121 kilometers (75 miles) with its epicenter located 164 kilometers east of Baghlan, a city home to around 108,000 residents.

Reuters reported that no casualties or damage have been reported so far.

Afghanistan lies in a seismically active zone, where the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates converge, making the region prone to frequent earthquakes. Over the past three decades, earthquakes have claimed the lives of nearly 10,000 people in the country.

Authorities are monitoring the situation and have advised residents to remain alert for potential aftershocks.
