Tel Aviv, May 5 (V7N) - Israel has vowed to take strong retaliatory measures after Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched a ballistic missile targeting the country’s main international airport. The attack, which occurred amid escalating regional tensions, has prompted a stern warning from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“We will not tolerate this. We will take severe retaliatory action against them and their backers,” Netanyahu said, referring to both the Houthi militants and their principal supporter, Iran.

The incident, reported on Monday by AFP, marks a significant escalation in cross-border hostilities, with Israeli officials treating the attack as a direct threat to national security. Though the extent of the damage at the airport has not yet been officially confirmed, no casualties were reported as of the latest updates.

The Houthis, an Iran-aligned rebel group involved in the prolonged civil conflict in Yemen, have previously launched drones and missiles targeting Israel in solidarity with Palestinians amid the Gaza conflict. However, an attack on Israel’s main airport marks a dramatic escalation.

Israeli defense forces are said to be reviewing their response options, and military analysts warn that direct retaliation could further inflame tensions across the Middle East.

The Iranian government has yet to issue an official response to Netanyahu’s statement or the reported missile strike.
