Gaza, Sep 21 (V7N) – In a historic diplomatic shift, three influential countries — the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia — have officially recognized Palestine as an independent state. The announcements were made in succession on Sunday (September 21).
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed London’s decision in a video message, saying the recognition is intended to “revive the two-state solution” and renew efforts toward lasting peace in the Middle East.
In Ottawa, Canada became the first G7 country to extend recognition to Palestine. Shortly afterward, Australia confirmed its decision through a joint statement issued by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
With the latest developments, 150 countries worldwide have now recognized Palestine as an independent state, marking a significant boost for Palestinian statehood efforts.
