Gaza, Oct 02 (V7N) – Renowned Bangladeshi photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam has sent a video message from the Global Sumud Flotilla, reaffirming the mission’s determination to reach Gaza despite Israeli attacks.
In his message posted on Facebook today, Alam said: “We will not back down in the face of any Israeli attack. We will definitely reach there.”
He described the situation at sea, noting that the flotilla faced a storm on Tuesday but has since continued its journey. “The captain pushed forward quickly to get ahead of the storm. We are at the very end of the Sumud Flotilla. The ships ahead have already reached Gaza. Those in front were attacked by Israeli occupation forces last night,” Alam reported.
Alam added that while his ship has not yet encountered the Israeli forces, they are moving closer to Gaza. He recalled spotting a Turkish vessel yesterday and expressed uncertainty about other ships in the vicinity today.
“We will not retreat under any circumstances. The sea is still dangerous, with the risk of another storm. The rain has stopped, but we will continue as we are,” he vowed.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, the world’s largest civilian naval mission, is carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza with participants from more than 40 countries. Several ships in the mission have already been seized by Israel.
