Amman, Oct 13 (V7N) — The Palestinian Authority has expressed readiness to implement US President Donald Trump’s plan, according to Hussein al-Sheikh, deputy head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Al-Sheikh met with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Amman, Jordan, on Sunday (October 12) and later shared updates on the social media platform X. He said that Blair was informed of the Palestinian Authority’s commitment to help establish a permanent ceasefire, facilitate reconstruction work in Gaza, ensure the entry of humanitarian aid, and oversee the release of hostages and prisoners.
Earlier reports suggested that Tony Blair might take charge of an interim administration in Gaza if the ceasefire is implemented, as reported by the BBC. However, Hamas has strongly opposed any such arrangement, making it clear that this would never be accepted.
Al-Sheikh emphasized that the Palestinian Authority aims to implement the ceasefire effectively while contributing to Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction.
It is worth noting that Blair served as the Middle East envoy for the United States, European Union, Russia, and the United Nations after leaving office in 2007. Despite facing widespread criticism for the UK’s involvement in the 2003 Iraq War, he has continued to hold high-level diplomatic meetings with international and regional stakeholders to seek an end to the Gaza conflict and shape the future of the Palestinian territories.
