Sanaa, Oct 17 (V7N) — Major General Mohammed al-Ghamari, the military chief of Yemen’s Houthi rebel group, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike, the group confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.
According to reports by Al Jazeera and the BBC, Israel had launched a series of airstrikes late last month on multiple Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. The attacks left at least nine people dead, and intelligence sources believe al-Ghamari was among those killed.
Mohammed al-Ghamari had served as the chief of staff of the Houthi military wing since 2016 and was promoted to Major General the same year. In 2021, he replaced Abdul Khaliq al-Houthi as commander-in-chief of the group’s armed forces.
Al-Ghamari’s death marks one of the most significant blows to the Houthi leadership in recent years, as tensions continue to rise across the region amid escalating Israeli military operations.
