Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) — The United States has expressed strong support for Bangladesh in its journey toward democracy, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming national elections.
Brent Christensen, the US ambassador-designate to Bangladesh, made the remarks during a hearing of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday. He called the elections, scheduled for early next year, the most important in decades, noting that they will determine a new government and a new path for the country.
Christensen said, “The United States supports Bangladesh’s journey to a bright and democratic future. If confirmed, I look forward to leading the team at the Dhaka embassy to build strong relationships with both the current interim government and its democratically elected successor.”
He also highlighted plans to strengthen economic relations, create opportunities for American businesses in Bangladesh, and reduce trade barriers and deficits.
Earlier, on September 2, US President Donald Trump nominated Christensen as the next ambassador to Bangladesh.
