"Easy to overlook this with so much focus on what the West thinks.": Michael Kugelman
Bangladesh Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's again wins will be welcomed across South Asia and the wider Global South, according to Michael Kugelman, director of the South Asia Institute at Wilson Centre in Washington, D.C.
He cited her emphasis on global peacekeeping, economic growth, connectivity, nonalignment, climate change, and hosting Rohingyas.
"Easy to overlook this with so much focus on what the West thinks," he stated.
Shortly after the announcement of Bangladesh's election results, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received congratulations from the envoys of China, Russia, and India. stated Kugelman.
"There's no need to be astonished if this surprises anyone. They all have long considered her to be an important partner—not only India—he posted on X, the previous Twitter platform.
"And now, the ambassador of what other nation has congratulated Hasina? Pakistan. The only nation in South Asia that could feel a little uneasy about her return, perhaps. Nonetheless prepared to acknowledge the outcome of the election," Kugelman wrote in a another statement published from his verified X account.
