Dhaka, Nov 25 (V7N) – U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to visit Beijing in April next year and has extended an invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping for a state visit to Washington in 2025, according to a report by BBC News on Tuesday (November 25).
The development follows a phone conversation between Trump and Xi, a month after the two leaders last met in South Korea. Both sides said the discussion covered a wide range of issues, including trade relations, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the fentanyl crisis, and tensions over Taiwan.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “Our relationship with China is very strong!”
China’s state media echoed a positive tone, stating that both nations should “move in the right direction based on equal rights, respect and mutual benefit.” Beijing added that China–US relations are currently progressing in a “stable and positive direction,” a trend welcomed by both countries and the international community.
Despite the diplomatic warmth, tariff measures on Chinese goods remain in place, averaging below 50%.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said the conversation between Trump and Xi lasted about an hour, with trade issues dominating the discussion.
The upcoming visits are expected to further shape the trajectory of relations between the world’s two largest economies.
