Washington, Dec 08 (V7N) – The United States has released a new policy document outlining its foreign policy priorities and national security strategy, identifying India as a “critical partner” in the evolving geopolitical landscape. The document, issued by the Trump administration on Friday, emphasizes deeper cooperation with New Delhi across economic, technological, and defense sectors.
The strategy highlights Washington’s aim to reinforce its influence across the Western Hemisphere while prioritizing the protection of Taiwan and strengthening security in the Indo-Pacific region. India is positioned as a central player in these efforts.
Unlike the 2022 version published under former President Joe Biden, the new document does not define China as Washington’s primary strategic challenge, nor does it focus extensively on competition with Beijing. Instead, it places greater emphasis on bilateral and regional partnerships.
The report calls for stronger commercial ties with India and underscores the importance of New Delhi’s continued role in Indo-Pacific security through the Quad alliance, comprising the United States, India, Japan, and Australia. It refers to the Indo-Pacific as a region responsible for nearly half of the world’s GDP and a key economic and geopolitical arena for the coming century.
In a related development, former Pentagon official Michael Rubin criticized President Donald Trump’s handling of foreign policy, claiming it has pushed India and Russia closer together. Rubin suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin has already assured India of uninterrupted energy supplies, while strained U.S.–India relations have shocked many Americans. He questioned whether Trump had been influenced by Pakistan through appeasement or incentives.
The newly released strategy, along with the growing debate surrounding U.S.–India relations, signals a shifting geopolitical dynamic that is likely to shape regional security and global power balances in the years ahead.
