Beijing, Dec 09 (V7N) – The Chinese government has executed Bai Tianhui, a former senior official, for accepting $156 million in bribes, according to the South China Morning Post and state media CCTV.

Bai held a key position at China Citic Financial Asset Management from 2014 to 2018. During this period, he illegally accepted the massive sum by exploiting his high-ranking government position. In May last year, a court sentenced him to death. Bai’s appeal to the highest court was subsequently rejected, and the sentence was carried out.

The execution comes amid President Xi Jinping’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign targeting financial institutions and high-ranking officials.
