Washington, Jan 13 (V7N) — US President Donald Trump has announced that any country conducting business with Iran will face a 25 percent tariff on all trade with the United States, a move that is expected to further tighten economic pressure on Tehran.

According to BBC News, President Trump made the announcement in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, stating that the tariff takes effect immediately.

“Effective immediately, any country doing business with Iran will pay a 25 percent tariff on any and all business done with the United States,” Trump wrote, adding that the order is “final and irrevocable.”

International analysts believe the announcement is aimed at increasing pressure on Iran at a time when the country is experiencing widespread anti-government protests and unrest.

The warning is expected to have significant implications for countries that maintain trade ties with Iran, as it forces them to choose between access to the US market and continued economic engagement with Tehran.

It is noteworthy that Iran is already largely isolated on the global stage due to long-standing sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Nations, and the European Union over its nuclear program, regional activities, and human rights concerns.

The latest tariff threat signals a further escalation of Washington’s hardline stance toward Iran amid heightened regional and international tensions.
