A heart-wrenching incident occurred at the Sushma Swaraj Maternity Home, operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipality (BMC) in Mumbai, India, resulting in the tragic loss of a pregnant woman and her newborn baby. The incident, reported by the Indian news media Times of India, shed light on the dire consequences of a power outage during surgery.

The incident unfolded when Khusruddin Ansari, a physically challenged man, admitted his wife Sahidun to the Sushma Swaraj Maternity Home for delivery. Despite the substantial annual budget of the BMC amounting to 52 thousand crore rupees, the hospital's inadequate infrastructure and lack of adequate treatment led to the devastating outcome.

According to reports, the hospital experienced a power outage during the caesarean operation, plunging the facility into darkness. Despite efforts to activate the generator, it failed to provide uninterrupted power supply, exacerbating the situation. Tragically, both the pregnant woman and her newborn baby lost their lives amidst the chaos and lack of medical support.

The family of the deceased pregnant woman expressed their anguish over the hospital's negligence, highlighting the critical need for improved infrastructure and emergency protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
