India has completed the withdrawal of all troops from the Maldives, meeting the deadline set by an agreement between the two countries. On May 10, the last day for troop withdrawal, all Indian Army personnel stationed in the island nation were successfully evacuated.

The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this development, as reported by the country's media outlet ANI. According to Indian media sources, a total of 89 Indian Army personnel have returned home following the completion of the withdrawal process.

The decision to withdraw Indian troops from the Maldives came after President Mohammed Muijju, who won the election, reiterated his stance on the matter several times. The presence of Indian troops in the Maldives had been a longstanding issue, with President Muijju making it a priority upon assuming office.

Previously, approximately 80 Indian Army personnel had been deployed in the Maldives for several years, operating two helicopters and an airplane in the country. However, in line with President Muijju's commitment, an agreement was reached between India and the Maldives on February 2.

As per the terms of the agreement, India was to withdraw 89 soldiers and their associated personnel from the Maldives by May 10. With the successful completion of the withdrawal process, both countries have fulfilled their respective obligations under the agreement, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations.
