In a significant escalation of tensions, Hezbollah, the Lebanese-based armed organization, launched a drone attack on a sensitive military installation inside Israel, marking its most significant assault on Israel since the beginning of the conflict with Hamas. Israeli officials confirmed that 14 soldiers were injured in the attack, as reported by the Times of Israel.
According to the Times of Israel's report, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when Hezbollah targeted a sensitive military installation in the Lower Galilee region of Israel using an explosive-laden drone. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that six of the wounded soldiers are in critical condition.
The IDF swiftly responded by striking the area from which the attack originated, identifying several anti-tank missiles and drones launched from the Bedouin village of Arab-Al Aramshe in Lebanon.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it had launched an explosive-laden drone at an Israeli air force base near the Golan Junction, approximately 35 kilometers from the Lebanese border. The targeted base houses a crucial missile detection blimp known as Sky Dew.
Confirming the attack on Thursday morning, the IDF reported that two drones were launched by Hezbollah, with one being intercepted by Israeli air defense systems. However, the second drone successfully struck the military installation, causing damage that is currently being assessed by the military.
The incident comes amidst ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah along the Lebanon-Israel border, with frequent clashes occurring almost daily. Hezbollah has indicated that it will only halt its attacks if a ceasefire agreement is reached in Gaza, where Israel has been conducting widespread airstrikes since October 7.
As tensions continue to escalate in the region, the drone strike by Hezbollah represents a dangerous escalation in the conflict between the two adversaries, raising concerns about further escalation and the potential for wider regional destabilization.
